Group Leader and Members take it in turn to lead a session, introducing a subject for discussion.

History Walks – B

Join Stephen on guided tours of around an hour and a half in which we explore the story of Brighton
& Hove’s historical development, and the people and places which were part of that story.

Some walks follow a theme such as women, cinemas or shops, other focus on a particular district, its
residents and their stories.

The proposed Group B walks for 2023-24 are currently:
• Around St Ann’s Well (11 January 2024)
• Screen Gems – City Centre cinemas (8 February 2024)
• Cliftonville and Old Hove (14 March 2024)
• The Railway Works and New England Quarter (11 April 2024)
• Marine Parade to Kemp Town (9 May 2024)
• In search of the village of Preston (13 June 2024)
• Brunswick Town and West Brighton (11 July 2024)

(note this programme is liable to change)

Scottish Country Dancing

A light hearted, enjoyable way to keep healthy: join the Scottish Country Dancing class and learn the formations to a variety of dances.
All footwork will be demonstrated and enjoyment and laughter is the object of the group.
Learn about the history of Scottish dancing and enjoy the wonderful tunes of the Jigs, Reels and Strathspeys.
The group meets on Tuesdays at 4.00 until 5.30 at the Unitarian Church on New Road. Bring soft shoes and a refreshment.
The first session is on 5th September.

German Beginners

Willkommen! A fun, interactive course for those with no prior knowledge of German.

We will cover topics such as greetings and introductions, basic personal questions and answers, numbers and prices, shopping, and ordering food and drinks.

Come along and surprise yourself at how quickly you can pick up the basics!

Starts 18 September.

Pop-up Groups

One-off talks will be offered across the term.

If you are willing to give such a talk, or can recommend another, please contact Michael.

Chair Yoga

This involves a number of straightforward yoga exercises for those who need to strengthen and/or loosen a range of muscles in a more supportive way. If you have mobility or balance problems, this could be for you.

Sessions will be on Thursday afternoons at Brighton Unitarian Church.

Restarts on Feb 01.

Play Reading

Members of the group will be assigned a part at the beginning of the session: with the agreement of group members this may be shuffled about halfway through.

There is a vast collection of titles to consider and I imagine we will concentrate on plays for which the text is crucial; Shaw, Wilde, Ayckbourn, etc.

Suggestions for plays to be read will be welcome. The group will be limited to about 12 members, and occasional absence is acceptable.

Meetins weekly from Jan 12.
