Play Reading

Members of the group will be assigned a part at the beginning of the session: with the agreement of group members this may be shuffled about halfway through.

There is a vast collection of titles to consider and I imagine we will concentrate on plays for which the text is crucial; Shaw, Wilde, Ayckbourn, etc.

Suggestions for plays to be read will be welcome. The group will be limited to about 12 members, and occasional absence is acceptable.

Meetins weekly.

Pilates

Hello, I’m Ginny – a Mat 3 Pilates instructor specialising in exercise for
older adults.

My focus is on maintaining and/or increasing flexibility &
mobility, developing core stability, and building strength & endurance to
help you achieve a pain-free, balanced lifestyle.

My u3a Pilates sessions take place in the Central United Reform Church
hall from 10:45-11:45 on Wednesdays.
Classes are intermediate to advanced, which means you must have a
good understanding of the principles, breathing techniques & standard
Pilates exercises, and of course have a good level of fitness.
If you meet this criteria, and there is a space available you will need to
complete a medical questionnaire and a ‘consent to group exercise’
form.

A good quality thick Pilates mat is essential. You will also need a long
resistance band, a wide loop band and a small Pilates ball.

Ukulele

All-comers are welcome to join the Ukulele group – no experience necessary!
We will start with learning a few simple chords and rhythms and use them to play and sing songs.  After we’ve mastered the basics we may increase the level of difficulty but unlikely to rival the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain.
The group will now at the Convenor’s home.

German Improvers

German Improvers machen Fortschritte, obwohl im gemächlichen Tempo. Teilnehmer werden gezwungen, einem Kursbuch und den Abstechern des Lehrers zu folgen. Aber Sinn der Sache ist, dass man Spaß dabei hat!

Green Conversation

A chance for members to share their thoughts about environmental issues and climate change.

We inspire the conversation with presentations by group members on various topics.

Wine Appreciation

Monthly meetings of several seperate groups in different locations – members wishing to share their knowledge and interest in viniculture, grape varieties and regions: or who wish to learn.

Wildflower Walks

A slow pace over well-trodden paths with many stops and diversions to enable us to look at and discuss plants we see.
Using public transport, walking from 2 – 4 miles and ending at a café.

This group is active April to September each year.

Afternoon Tea Group

Afternoon tea, in cafes across the City. There are 2 dates each month and members are given the choice of which date to attend. Numbers limited to 10/12 depending on the café chosen. Places allocated on a first come first served basis.

Walking Group 3

We are a friendly, welcoming group who walk 10-12 miles, twice a month, throughout the year. These are challenging walks in all weathers, at a brisk pace, often over rough or slippery ground.  So good levels of fitness, balance and agility are required.  And strong waterproof boots. We usually carry a picnic lunch and walks are generally accessible by public transport. From time to time we tackle longer trails such as the 100-mile South Downs Way or the 90-mile High Weald Landscape Trail in a series of weekly walks.  If you are capable of walking 10-12 miles over rough terrain, contact the convenor about trying out one of our walks.
